7. Add requirement to invite child to IEP Team meeting when purpose includes “consideration of postsecondary goals.”

The LEA must invite a child with a disability to attend the child’s IEP Team meeting if a purpose of the meeting will be the consideration of the postsecondary goals for the child and the transition services needed to assist the child in reaching those goals under §300.320(b).

2. What is the current practice relative to students’ participation in their IEP team meetings?
   • To what extent have postsecondary goals been discussed with the student although it has not previously been mandated by statute and regulation?
   • How will this provision impact students with more significant disabilities?

1. How will parents and students be informed of the importance and need for student participation?



2. What process can be put into place that will ensure that discussion and decision-making regarding postsecondary goals takes place? How can the district assure information is gained from the student for the IEP conference and that information is communicated after the conference to the student who does not attend?



3. How can schools and families enable empower a student to utilize self-advocacy skills to ensure he/she is an active participant in the consideration of post secondary goals?
